What is the NCCP?

The National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) is Canada’s premier coach training and certification program. Established in 1974 by the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) in partnership with the Government of Canada, the NCCP provides standardized, inclusive, and safe education for coaches across 65 sports.

The NCCP equips coaches with the skills and knowledge to guide their athletes effectively. Training includes:

  • Multi-Sport and Sport-Specific Modules: Tailored to the pathways of each national sport organization.
  • Expert Instruction: All sessions are led by qualified NCCP Learning Facilitators, Evaluators and Master Coach Developers

Who Delivers the NCCP?

The Coaching Association of Canada manages and delivers the program in collaboration with National Sport Organizations and Provincial/Territorial Sport Organizations.

What is Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD)?

The Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model is the foundation of Archery Alberta’s coaching framework, ensuring athletes progress through structured and age-appropriate stages of development.

Our approach focuses on:

  • Optimizing Growth: Providing coaching tailored to the physical, mental, and technical needs of athletes at each stage of their journey.
  • Building Excellence: Guiding athletes toward their full potential while fostering a lifelong love for the sport.

Learn more about how the LTAD model shapes our coaching strategies and programs on our Resources Page.

Coaching Insights & Development

“Coaching in archery goes beyond teaching technique—it’s about guiding athletes, fostering discipline, and creating a positive environment for growth. This section provides valuable resources to help coaches enhance their skills, understand athlete psychology, and improve training methods.”

Coaching Tips & Best Practices

Great coaching combines technical skills with effective communication. Here are some key strategies to enhance your coaching approach:

  • ✔ Adapt Your Communication Style – Speak differently to beginners, intermediates, and advanced athletes. Adjust your tone, simplify instructions for new learners, and provide constructive feedback.
  • ✔ Use Visual & Kinesthetic Teaching – Not all athletes learn the same way. Some respond better to demonstrations, while others improve with hands-on correction.
  • ✔ Create a Structured Training Plan – Divide training into warm-ups, skill drills, and simulated competitions. This keeps athletes engaged and motivated.
  • ✔ Provide Positive Reinforcement – Encourage progress, even in small steps. Recognizing effort builds confidence.
  • ✔ Implement Consistent Drills – Practice foundational drills for stance, draw, and release regularly to build muscle memory.
